Heavy. It makes me think of lifting, holding, pushing, pulling and all the while not getting very far. Although this may appear to be my version of Atlas, what I really had in mind was the weight of responsibility, the heavy load of the weight of the world on your shoulders. We can be glad to never have to experience such pressure, even if we were to become the president of one of earths big nations, we'd still not be responsible for the whole.
As Resurrection Sunday approaches, I think of Christ and how He took upon Himself the weight of the world's sins when He took our place to fulfill our insurmountable debt to God. He did not crumble under the weight as we would have.
So what better way than to illustrate the concept "choose" than by showing how ridiculous we women can be? Two identical choices save for the color can represent quite a conundrum, while gentlemen will never comprehend just how it could possibly take so long do put something, anything, on.
I wonder what Rupuntzel did all that while waiting for her hair to grow before she could meet her destiny?
This is another digital illustration.
Edited to add:
I wasn't satisfied with Rupuntzel. She seems to be lost in the landscape, except for the hair. Instead, I've tried to do the theme a second time and did an Illustrator illustration of Li'l Red
This is the second oil painting I did since picking up a brush again. I hope to practice some more soon.
Why this subject? Well I have a thing for old books. I pick them up at the swap shop and second hand stores. I love the detail work on those hardcovers as well as the connection to the past.
And the flowers? Well, freesias are my favorite flower. Have you ever smelled one? Its one of the strongest floral scents I know of. The small flowers will fill a room with a sweet and pleasant floral scent that is yet to be reproduced in any perfume or artificial scent. I miss being able to buy the bunches of them while they are in season. They're not easily found up here in the Northeast.
I had done a bit of watercolor on and off during the years, but I hadn't done anything with oils since high school and I'd never used acrylics before. Its been fun trying and the results are mixed.
This post shows a series of apples. One photograph, which is my usual "media", one watercolor before the class (red apple), one watercolor after it (green leafy apple), and my first oil in ages (two apples, above).
